First steps in acting<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Lionel Herbert Barrymore was born on April 28, 1878 in the City of Brotherly Love. Along with his surname, he received from his father and mother a talent for acting. Great hopes were placed on him and Ethel and John Barrymore to continue the success of the creative dynasty. Therefore, at a young age, Lionel attended local educational institutions with a focus on acting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the first time, the boy appeared on stage at the age of fifteen, where he performed together with his grandmother. Later, in an interview, he said that he never really wanted to become an actor. The young man’s soul was prone to drawing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Whether he wanted it or not, the innate talent for acting on stage could not disappear. The boy successfully performed roles, dreaming of a career as an artist. Then, together with his uncle, he performed in plays known at that time on Broadway. After some time and failures on stage, Lionel faces the flood of hate, as we call it nowadays. Enraged, he left America with his wife and began his artistic career in Europe. He was not able to fulfill his childhood dream in Paris so he returned to his homeland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the United States, he immediately started to work. However, he was ill for a long time due to an attack of nerves. Relatives talked about the exacerbation of appendicitis. After recovering, he returned to his stage career and the family troupe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Before the beginning of the First World War, the native of Philadelphia tried himself in the film industry but then returned to the theater again. In recent projects, the theater actor has proven himself in dramatic roles, such as The Jest, The Letter of the Law and Laugh, Clown, Laugh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then, the Philadelphian focused entirely on filming, which was becoming increasingly popular. In a short time, he participated in more than sixty silent films. In addition, he traveled and took part in such successful European films as The Eternal City, America and Decameron Nights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Lion and the Mouse movie became his first talking film. The performance of the Philadelphian was excellent since he previously had experience in the production of dialogue in sound films. As a director, he was remembered for being one of the first to invent moving the microphone on the sound stage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 1931, the popular actor triumphed with the film A Free Soul and won the Oscar award for the Best Actor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On November 15, 1954, as a result of many diseases that caused a heart attack, Lionel died in Los Angeles. A native of Philadelphia was buried there, at Calvary Cemetery.
