Harp & Crown: Cocktails Upstairs, Secret Bowling Below

Most restaurants hide their storage in the basement; Harp & Crown hides a speakeasy with a two-lane bowling alley. Elbow Lane, tucked beneath the soaring main room, pours cocktails beside vintage pins — and upstairs, chef Michael Schulson runs one of Center City’s most reliably buzzy dining rooms, wood-fired pizzas and all.

The Story

Schulson and his wife Nina Tinari-Schulson opened Harp & Crown as a neighborhood grand café between Rittenhouse and City Hall, giving the Schulson Collective a clubby flagship. The room announces itself instantly: a glass façade, ceilings rising twenty-four feet, four chandeliers, walls of old black-and-white photographs and funky vintage wallpaper over leather club chairs — eclectic on paper, coherent in person.

What to Order

Wood-fired pizzas are the anchor — blistered, generously topped and made for sharing. Around them: lamb meatballs, spicy chicken wings, a raw bar, spaghetti bolognese, seared scallops, a pork chop Milanese and a properly juicy dry-aged burger. Weekend brunch goes big-format with a buffet of made-to-order stations, carved meats and an egg station. The bar seats thirty-two and mixes accordingly.

The Space

Upstairs is all volume and glow — chandeliers, salvaged photos, that wall of glass onto the street. Downstairs, Elbow Lane flips the mood to low-lit lounge: cocktails, the full menu and two bowling lanes you can book while the room hums around you.

Who It’s For

Groups that want dinner plus a party trick, pizza loyalists, brunch crews and anyone who judges a restaurant by its bar energy.

Good to Know

Do I need a reservation? For prime dinner and weekend brunch, yes; the long bar takes walk-ins.

Can I book the bowling lanes? Yes — Elbow Lane’s two lanes can be reserved and serve the full menu alongside.

What should I order first? A wood-fired pizza for the table, then the dry-aged burger or scallops.

How does brunch work? Weekend brunch is a buffet with made-to-order stations, a carving station and eggs cooked to order.

Is it date-appropriate? Very — dinner upstairs, then cocktails and a frame of bowling below is a ready-made plan.

A wonderful buffet breakfast near Rittenhouse Square.

The waffles and truffle mac and cheese were unbeatable. The service was pleasant and fun. The salmon and omelette station was popular with our group.

This is a nice place for a date or a girls' party. It's more of an atmosphere-focused place where you'll spend more, so just keep that in mind — it's not a sit-down date spot.

Brought my daughter here for a Valentine's Day dinner, booking a table at the last minute, and I'm so glad we made it. The place itself is worth a visit — nice interior, the kind of spot that feels special but without tr…

Harp & Crown does a $38-per-person brunch buffet on weekends. Unfortunately, for our group it was a letdown. I want to say I really love their happy hour and the bar downstairs — this review is about the brunch.
