There’s hardly anyone in the world who hasn’t seen a movie starring Kevin Hart. He has a way of leaving a lasting impression on everyone he meets. Though he’s a huge Hollywood star now, Hart started his career as a stand-up comedian, which is why he’s still most associated with comedic roles. He’s a self-made man, without wealthy parents or family connections. In fact, his early life was quite difficult. Read on to learn more on philadelphia-trend.
Kevin Hart’s Early Years
Kevin Hart’s life began on July 6, 1979, in North Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He had an older brother named Robert. The family seemed happy on the surface, but appearances can be deceiving.
The boys were raised by their mother, Nancy, alone. The reason wasn’t a tragic accident but their father, Henry’s, severe drug addiction. Henry was a drug addict who was frequently incarcerated, so he spent most of Kevin’s childhood behind bars. Fortunately, after receiving treatment, father and son were able to repair their relationship.
Nancy did everything she could to ensure her children received an education and didn’t feel like they were a lower class. She worked hard as a systems analyst in the student registration and financial services department at the University of Pennsylvania. Her work wasn’t physical, but she always strived to perform at the highest level.
Kevin grew up in a difficult family environment, as it was tough to have a good relationship with someone who spent all their money on drugs. To cope and not take daily problems to heart, he used his natural talent for making people laugh in every situation. He was very good at it. This is how Hart constantly de-escalated family conflicts and misunderstandings. It also helped him avoid a lot of trouble.
The Actor’s Education

He attended George Washington High School in Northeast Philadelphia. As a teenager, he didn’t aspire to be a future comedy or movie star. He was drawn to sports, specifically basketball. Hart even attended La Salle basketball camp, where he met future NBA star Kobe Bryant. However, it would have been tough for Kevin to make it in basketball, as he is only 5 feet 2 inches tall.
After high school, Kevin started at the Community College of Philadelphia, but it didn’t hold his interest. After a short time, Hart dropped out and moved to New York City.
He hoped the new city would open doors for him. However, with no idea what to do with his life or what direction to go in, he found himself at a crossroads. His mother couldn’t provide financial support, especially now that he was an adult. Kevin realized he needed to make money to live in such an expensive city, so he took a job at a shoe store.
First Steps in a Comedic Career

The job at the shoe store wasn’t a final destination, and the ambitious young man knew it. Even while living in Philadelphia, Hart had performed at amateur comedy shows. Of course, back then it was just for fun, but in New York, he realized it could be his future.
For his first time on stage, Kevin chose the pseudonym Lil Kev. However, his debut at “The Laff House” club did not go as he had hoped. The beginning of his comedy career was difficult at best; the audience booed him more than once. But the worst moment was when a piece of chicken flew from the audience and hit him.
Unfortunately, his career was slow to take off. At that point, he was still searching for his own style. Initially, Kevin was inspired by famous comedians like Chris Tucker, mimicking their behavior and delivery. But eventually, that changed. All the inspiration he drew from Chris Rock, Chris Tucker, Eddie Murphy, and others culminated in his own unique comedic persona.
For months, Kevin tried to combine the best traits and mannerisms of other comedians. He eventually succeeded, but he delivered it all in his own unique and personal style.
The long string of failures he faced didn’t make him give up on his future. On the contrary, they gave him a huge push. Hart started participating in various comedy competitions. This allowed him to “test-drive” his material and figure out what the audience wanted. Thanks to his perseverance, Hart’s career began to skyrocket.
Touring

After a successful start to his career, Hart began to gain an audience. This led to him going on tour in 2009. His first major tour was “I’m a Grown Little Man.” The material he performed received rave reviews. So, Hart decided not to stop there and continued to tour across the country. His next shows were “Seriously Funny” and “Laugh at My Pain.”
The latter tour was so popular that it grossed over $15 million, making it the best-selling comedy tour of 2011. Kevin later performed another show called “Let Me Explain.” But what’s important is not just the number of tours and the money he made, but the fact that the last two shows were released as feature-length films.
On April 9, 2015, Hart began his next large-scale tour, which was international. This tour ran until August 7 of the following year. On July 16, 2015, Universal Pictures announced that this show would be released as a stand-up film on October 14, 2016.
Acting Career

Hart’s first acting role wasn’t a major one; it was in a TV series where he didn’t play the main character. However, it was the beginning of his journey into the world of cinema. After he became a well-known comedian, he started being offered more roles. But Hart didn’t accept every single one. In 2008, Kevin was offered a role in the movie Tropic Thunder, but he turned it down. The reason was that the character he was asked to play was gay, and Hart cited his own insecurities about performing the role.
Over the years, his acting career gained momentum. In 2016, he even voiced one of the characters in the animated film The Secret Life of Pets. In 2019, Hart reprised his voice role in the sequel, The Secret Life of Pets 2. His character, a rabbit named Snowball, was loved by many children and adults alike. You could even say that the character’s personality reflected the actor’s own.
Kevin has often starred in comedic films, but perhaps his most memorable role was in the movie Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle. He played a game character whose charisma was very similar to Hart’s own. The film also featured a strong cast: Jack Black, Dwayne Johnson, Karen Gillan, and Nick Jonas, to name a few. The movie was a huge hit with audiences, which led to a sequel.
Thanks to his relentless work ethic, Kevin started earning a very good income. In 2017, he made $32.5 million. But this hard work continues to open up more opportunities for the actor each year. In 2018, he produced his first film, Night School. His debut as a producer received positive reviews from audiences.
The comedy genre didn’t trap Hart. In 2019, he starred in the dramatic film The Upside. While many might remember him as a comedian and a lighthearted person, he showed that he’s capable of anything.
Restaurant Business

Kevin Hart decided to invest his money in a good cause: food. As a proponent of a healthy lifestyle, he was inspired to open his own restaurant, “Hart House,” in 2022. The menu reflects the actor’s life philosophy—everything is healthy and fresh. Hart didn’t stop at one restaurant. He opened a second location that same year, and a third in 2023. Those in Los Angeles, California, can visit “Hart House” and enjoy the healthy fast food offered by the world-famous actor.
